Tulkas Mühendislik Wins YTÜ Teknopark's Most Successful Entrepreneurial Company Award

Tulkas Mühendislik was recognized in November 2019 with YTÜ Teknopark's Most Successful Entrepreneurial Company Award for its R&D work on composite materials, propeller technologies and proprietary test infrastructure.

From its founding, Tulkas Mühendislik focused not only on manufacturing composite parts, but on carrying out needs analysis, design, numerical modeling, mold development, production and testing within the same engineering chain. The YTÜ Teknopark Most Successful Entrepreneurial Company Award received in November 2019 became one of the important milestones of the company's early period, reflecting this approach.

At the time the award was received, Tulkas' core area of work consisted of developing propellers for unmanned aerial vehicles, improving carbon fiber manufacturing methods, and validating product performance with its own test systems. Rather than simply producing look-alikes of ready-made products, the company moved forward with the approach that developing geometry suited to the mission and platform would create higher added value.

A defining feature of Tulkas' early work was that design decisions were never evaluated separately from production and testing. While a propeller's blade profile, pitch distribution or carbon fiber layup were being determined at the drawing board, the effect of those same decisions on mold design, production repeatability, balancing and thrust testing was considered at the same time.

This integrated way of working allowed a small R&D team to establish short development cycles. Every sample produced was treated not just as a finished part, but as a data source for the next design iteration. In this way, Tulkas began moving product development from a trial-and-error approach toward a measurable engineering cycle.

This development in 2019 also made visible the three core capability areas Tulkas would expand in the following years: proprietary propeller design, composite manufacturing methodologies, and in-house test infrastructure. The company later strengthened this foundation by developing its own propeller design software, flow analysis tools, and structural and fatigue test systems.

For Tulkas, the award was positioned not as a completed achievement but as the beginning of a transition to a more systematic R&D and production infrastructure. The company's goal was to build a family of composite propellers that could respond to different diameter and pitch requirements, with measurable performance and repeatable production quality.

Today, Tulkas Mühendislik still does not evaluate a project solely through the part to be produced. Mission profile, RPM range, power system, structural loads, environmental conditions and the series production target are all considered together from the very first stage. The award received in 2019 remains in Tulkas' history as one of the first visible validations of this engineering approach during the company's corporate development.
